What would you recommend for a beginner’s kit when entering into rope bondage?

You can do a lot with just 2x 8m (26-30 foot) lengths. And there are multiple tutorials on the internet for a single 8m rope. So 2x 8m and 2 15 foot sections would do you for most of what you want in the bedroom outside of partial/full suspensions. As far as material if you are on a budget then nylon from the local hardware store is a cost effective option or hit up the wish app for some colored nylon. I started with climbing rope and used that for our first 3-4 scenes with rope. Just a reminder, anything smaller in diameter than 5mm starts to bite into the skin and can be used for a more uncomfortable or predicament based tie. But if that’s not your aim, stay away from smaller diameter ropes or coconut rope. Just my $.02

I managed to get a Knothead Nylon kit a few months back and it’s been wonderful to work with.

6mm nylon tends to be fairly standard and also offers a lot of flexibility and durability. It doesn’t bite or cut into skin unexpectedly, and usually that’s a plus, especially if you’re tying something that is meant to hold in its place for awhile.

As for lengths and quantities it will depend on what you want to do, but thus far I’ve kept multiple strands of 15, 25, and even 50ft 6mm nylon on hand. The 50ft in particular allows you to double-up your work if wanted, and then you can still use the single strands in the last few feet to finish off a tie. Just did this last night to finish off a double-reinforced ankle restraint, and I forgot to snap a quick photo for reference. Next time.

    Hope this helps.

    All the Best,
    Mister L
