I would like to start building some consistency with using this forum for accountability on my growth in fitness and making it a routine. My goal for this next couple quarters is to train for and run a half Marathon in October. I have registered and paid for it to keep my focus. I ran one in 2016 so know what it will take and have started training for the past 4 or 5 weeks after my 12k in May.

Dealing with some hip soreness the past couple weeks. Have been working on adding stretching to my routine both on rest days and post runs. Have been able to fight through initial soreness and keep training.
July 9th – 2 Mile run, hard run, body wasn’t feeling it but even though I had to walk finished in under 10/mile pace (this is about my fastest for this year)
July 11th – 5k training run, felt good after first mile when hip loosened up. Ran negative splits which was my goal for the run. Average 10:04 over 5k.

July 14 – Got up at 6:00 to get a 6 mile run in before church. Started slow with continued hip soreness but was able to maintain a 10:30 pace for rest of the run except for the large hill in mile 5.

Good job OTW working out even when sore. That active recovery will help you recover faster and still get better.
Keep it up!

Got the honor of running with my oldest as she completed her first 5k on Tuesday. May give my hip a rest day today and shoot for another 6 mile run on Saturday.

Got up and did 5.25 miles before the family woke up. Started slow again but got my average pace below 10:30 by running negative splits.

Another 5k with my oldest on Tuesday and did 9 even on my mile today. Still dealing with hip pain but it is still going away once I get moving so continuing to train.

Great to hear that you are able to work through the discomfort and get into a comfortable rhythm. Have you tried foam rolling by chance just to see if the soreness is from a misalignment or muscle tightness?
Keep it up!

I don’t currently own a foam roller. We didn’t like our old one and it just took up a lot of space. Have been stretching and am trying to decide between Chriro and PT.

Ran 6.5 mile training run, averaged 10:25 min/mile. Hip was sore till about mile 2.5 but loosened up after that. More soreness on Sunday morning but definitely improving. Today is best day in weeks.

Wildfire smoke has prevented me from getting out the past couple weeks. Did get back out on Monday for a 5-mile run. Averaged 10:43 min/mile including tackling a large hill. Reaggravated hip by getting startled by an ambulance that turned on its siren as it was coming up right behind me but have been stretching and using Arnica on it and planning for 7 miles on Friday.

Good job getting out there are doing what is best for your body! Those are great pace numbers, especially with hill work involved.

7 mile run on Friday night. Spent all day on a ladder on Saturday. Was happy to have nearly no soreness either from the run or my hip. Progress being made.

Did two miles last night. Worked on my running form and was pain-free at the end of the run. More soreness today and scheduled Chiropractor to determine if there is something out of alignment or if need PT/something else.
Been in the 150s for weight three times this week. Have a goal of 3 consecutive days in the 150s and will buy a rope book I have been eyeing as a reward.

I love how you have connected a positive and healthy reward with your healthy goal. Many times people will reward themselves with something unhealthy as a reward for doing something healthy.

Treatment for hip issues seems to be helping but very sore this morning. However, that is after 8.5 mile run last night so I would guess that is to be expected. Hopefully soreness won’t slow down our painting project today. Half Marathon is 6 weeks away.

Ran 8.3 miles last night. First run since June without having to work through pain. Have a bit of soreness on hip today, but much better than the past. Chiro work has been helping.

9 mile run down today (while on vacation). Felt great, chiro paying off. Now to have enough energy to keep up with kids on the beach.

Half Marathon completed! I had a goal of a pace of 11:45 and ran with an average pace of 11:13. Body held up well in spite not getting to final training distance due to illness and inclement weather.
